My objective was to create a poster which illustrates problems relating to alcohol consumption across the world. The main graphic is a choropleth that shows each country’s annual per-capita alcohol consumption. The browns and reddish-browns resemble alcohol, and the navy blue background creates a slightly cool, confining feeling. The dirt texture behind the countries draws a parallel between the colors of the land and the colors of alcohol. Each supplementary infographic is worked into the organic shape of the map to create a cohesive narrative about personal and public health issues that arise from alcohol consumption.
The prototype below provides details about specific countries' consumption patterns. For demonstration purposes, only countries in Africa are functional. Western Sahara, Angola, Ethiopia, and Angola also demonstrate a pop-up with an overview of the country consumption numbers.
